Mekabu is the reproductive sporophyll from the base of the Wakame plant.
30% to 50% higher in nutrients than the rest of the plant, Mekabu is a power house of goodness. Containing high levels of Fucoidan which has been proven to have positive effects against some forms of cancer cells.
With its crunchy yet slippery texture Mekabu is great crushed and added to soups or stir-fry’s, thickening dishes such as soups as it releases nutrients during cooking. Mekabu is also great for making "Dashi", the base stock for Miso soup and many other Japanese dishes due to its savoury "Umami" flavour.
